INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE SP SHAD AND SP CHUGGER
Begin by tying fishing line directly to the barrel swivel attached to the lure. Cast toward stick-ups or other cover where
fish wait to ambush prey. The lure will immediately begin its lifelike struggling action upon entering the
water. When the action stops, begin the retrieve using one or two chugging or popping motions of the rodtip as you
would with a standard chugger or popper. This will reactivate the lure for continuous live-action! Then get ready
to catch the BIG ONE!!
Although these lures can be used with light tackle, medium to heavy baitcasting equipment is recommended for optimum results. Low test
monofilament line and lightweight rods may not fully activate the lures since they tend to stretch and bend rather than delivering the force of the
fisherman's arm motion to the lure. 17 to 20 pound test monofilament line and a medium to heavy rod will allow full activation
from any casting distance. Braided superlines are also very effective because of their low stretch characteristics. Heavy lines, such as
fluorocarbon based lins, are not not recommended since they will quickly sink and pull the lure downward during activation.
ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
The SP Shad is designed to be fished at a fairly slow pace. It is especially effective in situations where the lure needs to remain in the strike zone for extended periods of time, such as in open pockets of weeds, lily pads, or stick-ups. Practice will allow you to give keep the lure in these areas by using a sharp popping action that barely moves the lure forward but fully loads the spring motor for up to 15 seconds of lifelike struggling action per activation. The tail fin of the SP Shad can also be adjusted to give the lure slower or faster action. To increase the fluttering speed of the lure, bend the rear 1/3 of the tail fin upwards. The more the tail is bent (toward the sky), the faster the action. To decrease the speed, keep the tail fin straight.
The SP Chugger is a faster paced lure that is designed to be worked quickly to cover more water. Each activation provides up to 10 seconds of tantalizing tail shaking sound and action that calls fish to the surface. Remember to slow the retrieve when approaching stumps, logs, or other cover to allow maximum dwell time and to use a sharp popping motion of the rodtip to load the spring motor while keeping the lure in the strike zone. A quick "double popping" action of the rodtip is also useful when fish are easily spooked. This technique results in reduced water disturbance while still fully loading the spring motor for maximum live bait action. In fact, many fisherman utilize a short double popping action as their standard retrieve with both the SP Shad and the SP Chugger.
